An Important Digression

Here'e the worst kept secret: there's a group of people who believe that only a "chosen few" who would ultimately be the winners at life, the universe and everything. These "chosen few" may be called "elites", "powerplayers", "kingmakers", "czars" or even "illuminati". That doesn't matter.
What matters is they have the wrong attitude towards the "non chosen". They think it is easy to manipulate the rest of the world. Of course, the way many people react to media hype tends to perpetuate this myth and elevate it to the ranks of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
When life hands you a terrible hand, when the cards are down, just remember: a prostitute with STD, facing the odds of giving birth to a deformed child, chose NOT to abort the pregnancy. The child grew up to be Beethoven.
There's also a scientific principle to this. It's called the Butterfly Effect. The best speech ever given by Winston Churchill? "Never give up! Never give up! Never give up!"
